A Gift from the HeART by Linda Kay's Art

What a wonderful way to share the love you feel for friends and family by making a handmade gift. Something that will show them, every day, that they are well thought of and loved.

This is what I did for some very special friends who saw me through a very difficult time recently.
I needed a simple, economical yet meaningful gift to give to my friends as a small token of my gratitude. I chose a heart.

I was perusing Pinterest recently for ideas and found a 4 sided heart ornament made of paper that I instantly fell in love with. So, to make it very personal, I chose a 3 sided design as that is a special number for me and holds deep meaning that I wanted to embed in my gifts.

Now I went into production mode!

After cutting out a bunch of hearts with my Cricut machine, I went about and put these heart ornaments together. First I creased a line down the center with my ruler and bone folder.

I gather a lot of soft colors and pretty designs for my hearts as I wanted to reflect my loving thoughts with sweet colors and patterns.

I cut lots of fibers to use as hangers and set them aside.

Choosing which ones worked well together was a lot of fun. I worked on a crafting mat to help keep the mess manageable.

Using Modge Podge and a 1" flat brush, I started pasting them together. One heart laid face down, the other two folded in half and matching edges with the first.

Laying the folded fiber hanger in half, I placed it in the center of the remaining side, laid on enough glue and squeezed the pieces together keeping the hanger as close to the center as possible. Some of them were a bit lumpy and bumpy, but I didn't think that hurt any of them. I just made sure to fill them with good thoughts of love and hugs!

I let them dry overnight and hoped my cats would not try to run off with too many of them. They really like to sleep on this table and love yarn even more!

I tied on some shiny beads; one on the top, two on the bottom.

I have a special ornament hanger that I got from Crate and Barrel last year which worked out perfectly for the display. It created quite a interest at my party where everyone was encouraged to pick one out and take it home.

So, if you need to make a special gift on a budget and don't have a lot of time, these little hearts might just be the trick.

Best wishes and Happy Holidays!

Gr8full Cre8ives In December

Today I'd like to revisit our Gr8full project with a bit of an addition.

December's theme is

celebration.

Which is what we all should be doing this month...right?

For me December is the hardest month to stay focused on what I really need to remember..it's busy, you're running aorund like a chicken with your head cut off, the tree, the decorations, the shopping...ugh!
I'm tired just thinking about it!

How can I remember all the little things that I'm gr8full for?
All the things worth celebrating?
I really want to make an effort this year to keep these things
in the forefront of my thoughts.

Sitting down at the computer the other day I decided to make up a daily list of prompts so I could have a few minutes of reflection.
A few seconds of inner meditation on the celebration of the season.

Here's what I came up with.

Please feel free to print this up and share by
clicking on the picture or on the following link.

Now you can use these just for your personal and daily routine. No one has to see or know. But also I would love it if you would share your thought or pictures with our FB group. Each day has a word and a thought on a photo idea that would be a great addition into Instagram.
(Just remember to use our tags so we can see what incredible things you come up with)
I'm going to try to do each day.
Maybe some to share and some to keep to myself.

I also put together a blank copy so you
can fill in your own gratitude list.

Be cre8ive and fill each day with
something that means something to you.
(you can click the picture or the link below for a printable)

The more gratitude we throw into the universe the better!

Until next time,

Cre8ive Klatch Gr8full Project: Friday Thoughts

As we approach the holidays I wanted to take a moment to revisit our Gr8full project.

The gr8full theme for this month is "Small Things."

Seems to be it's all the small things we lose track of during the busiest times...all of those tiny details...those truly are the meaning of our daily lives. We start to get frantic at this time of year with all the things we need to get done...shopping, gift buying, food preparation, card sending, cookie baking, tree trimming...to name just a few.

We miss the things that make this life so special.

Too many small things go by...and you miss the glory of being in the moment.

We here at the Cre8ive Klatch wish to empower you to take notice around you. Give yourself a second to take in all the small things that make up your life and be gr8full for each tiny thing.

Be truly aware. What catches your attention when you give yourself a minute to see?

It could be your smiling children as they realize you're decorating for their favorite holiday. The family gathering that has a favorite recipe made for each and every member. Delighted glances from store clerks because you're the only one that was patient in their line. Things you might pass off if you aren't looking.

For the next week as we head into Thanksgiving try to capture a moment that is a small, tiny thing. A glimpse into something you may have missed if not for really taking that extra second to see. Allow yourself to be gr8full for a piece of your life that may have initially passed you by.

See what you can seize and snap a quick photo to share with us. Use the tags below, either together or separately...we will be looking to see just how much gratitude we can stir before this holiday that is all about giving thanks.

Getting To Know The Cre8ive Crew: Joana Carvalho

Our next artist is a unique gal and her name is Joana Carvalho.

She is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but has been living in Southern California with her husband and 2 children for 9 years.

What kind of art is your passion?

The colorful kind. Mixed media, but mainly acrylic paint.

How often do you create?

Not enough! It's hard to make time to paint, especially with 2 small kids at home! I try to go in my studio daily, but it doesn't happen all the time.

How does it make you feel when you're creating something?

Depends on the stage of the painting! When I like where it's going I feel great, but during the 'ugly' stage it's just frustrating!

How do you know when a piece is finished?

I used to think about that a lot when I started painting, and always thought it would be a big problem for me. But it isn't. I just let the painting sit overnight and when I look at it the next day, I just know.

When/how did you realize your life had to have art in it?

Not early enough! I've always been creative and liked arts in general, but had a preconceived notion of what it meant to be an 'artist'. And I didn't think I had it in me. So I stuck with graphic Design for a few years before taking the leap.

Joana's Abstract

How has your view of life (art) changed over the last 5, 10 years? 20 Years?

Well, today I no longer think that just a lucky few are 'special' and talented enough to be called 'artists'. I think anybody can paint or do something creative. They just have to let go of the fear.

Tell us how your creativity blends over into the rest of your life?

Hmmm, let's see...I make cute tags for my kids' toy bins, I make labels out of washi tape for EVERYTHING in my home...that kind of thing.

Whats your superpower?

I used to think it was speed - because I do work fast. But lately I've come to realize that speed might actually be my 'kryptonite', and it's just a symptom of my anxiety to get things done!

Which side of the bed do you sleep on? Can you sleep if forced to change sides?

Currently on the right side, but we switch every once in awhile.

Joana's Abstract #2

If money were no object in what country, place, or on what planet would you live? ...and why?

If money were no object I think I would be traveling all over! And then I would decide where to live!

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

How do you feel about that? Introvert. Wish I wasn't though.

Whats your most embarrassing moment?

Walking into a glass door, face first! Ouch!

If we all came to your house for dinner what would you make for us?

Something with tomato sauce, which is pretty much the only thing I know how to make. ;-)

Joana's Abstract #3
